I am delighted that after several rounds of interviews, I was recruited by Standard Chartered Bank (China) Ltd. Co. as a Customer Relationship Manager. It was luck and more importantly the experience I acquired in Raffles Design whichlanded me this position.
I was excited and yet suspicious about the course when I enrolled initially. I soon realized I had made the right choice through my learning in the school. We had excellent lecturers, modern teaching concepts and a competent Student Services Department, who had assisted me in various difficulties and trivialities, which I encountered during my course of studies.
Students are required to be self-motivated and self-discipline at Raffles Design. The lecturers do not simply provide us with answers and solutions but led us to the right answers through our own research. Students are encouraged to be creative in their assignments. Many assignments are group projects, hence, team effort is highly valued and team work is as important as individual performance. Group projects require co-ordination and adaptation. The lecturers and the team members initially experienced lots of friction. But it was through this exchange of ideas and conflict management that allows me to appreciate the importance of balancing individualism and team effort. The wisdom I acquired is helpful at work and I am able to progress faster than my peers.
Courses at Raffles Design are very novel and practical. With the knowledge and skills I acquired, I successfully planned a jewel appreciation event, targeting at high-ranking bank clients at the Garden Hotel in the beginning of 2007. The event was widely acclaimed.
